Kennel Cough
Kennel cough is a a complex of infections, both viral and bacterial, that cause inflammation of a dog's voice box and windpipe.  It's a form of bronchitis and is similar to a chest cold in humans .  Though it usually clears up on it's own, it is highly contagious.
Kennel cough can be spread through aerosols in the air, directly from dog to dog or through germs on contaminated objects.  Kennel cough is often spread in enclosed areas with poor air circulation or through direct contact while being in a vet clinic, training class, dog parks, grooming facility, or even pet supply stores.  Kennel Cough is so contagious that your dog may even get it from sharing a water dish at the dog park or by simply greeting another dog.
General symptoms of kennel cough is a persistent dry cough with a "honking" sound is the main clue your dogs caught kennel cough.  In most cases, they will appear healthy except for the cough, their appetite and activity level usually do not change, but they may also gag and cough up a white foamy phlegm, some dogs may also develop a fever and nasal discharge.
Having your dog vaccinated will help prevent this virus, but does not always protect against all forms of kennel cough, just like the human flu shot.
If you suspect your dog might have kennel cough, immediately isolate them from other dogs and call your veterinarian.
